CONWAY, S.C. - Junior Nicole Massoni had a pair of hits and one RBI, but it was not enough as the Rhode Island softball team (0-10) dropped a 5-2 decision to Boston College Sunday morning at the Coastal Carolina Tournament.

Sophomore designated hitter Erika Szymanski also chipped in offensively with two hits and one RBI.

Rhody took the early lead as it plated one run in the top half of the first thanks to a two-out RBI single to right center by Massoni. Szymanski came up next and doubled down the right field line, but the Eagles got out of the inning as Massoni was tagged out at the plate.

Boston College fought back in the bottom half of the frame as it scored four runs to take a 4-1 lead. The Eagles added another run in the second inning to make the count 5-1.

The Rams cut BC's lead to three after it scored one run in the third frame following an RBI single to second base by Szymanski, which scored freshman Fallon Scorpio from second base, but that was as close URI would get for the remainder of the game.

Junior pitcher Jayshree Narendran took the loss and fell to 0-1 on the year. Junior Alison Hartzell came on in relief of Narendran, working 4.2 innings and did not give up a run. She also struck out three batters.

Rhody returns to action on Friday as it takes on Western Kentucky in the Buzz Classic. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
