URI Finishes Tied for Fourth at New England D-I Championship

NEWPORT, R.I -- Rhode Island finished in a tie for fourth place at the 2011 New England D-I Championship, held at the Newport National G.C. (par 72/7,244 yards).

The Rams totaled 608 strokes - 300 during Saturday's first round, followed by a second round score of 308.

Patrick Pelletier and Taylor Fontaine led the way for URI, tying for 12th place overall with a score of 151. Pelletier shot an opening round 75 before closing with a second day 76. Fontaine shot a 76 in the first round of play, before carding a day two score of 75.

Andrew Fiorenzano tied for 23rd place overall, with a score of 154. He shot a first round 76 before closing tournament play with a 78 on Sunday. John Kelly tied for 31st place (73-83=156), while Branden Chicorka rounded out the Rhody golfers in a tie for 43rd place (81-79=160).

Central Connecticut took team honors, with a score of 590 (301-289), while Sacred Heart's David Renski was individual medalist, with a 2-under par score of 142 (71-71).

Rhode Island returns to action on April 16-17 at the Navy Spring Invitational, held in Annapolis, Md.
