HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. -- Rhode Island sits in sixth place after the first round of play at the 2011 Atlantic 10 Championship. The three-day, 54-hole tournament is being held at the Mission Inn Resort (par 72; 6,901 yards).
Rhode Island finished with a first day score of 312 (+22).
John Kelly is tied for eighth after the first 18 holes of play. The senior fired an opening round 75 (+3), carding three birdies on the day, including the 514-yard par 5 14th hole.
Taylor Fontaine is tied for 20th after day one of play. The junior carded a 77 during Friday morning's round. Fontaine registered three birdies - also registering a 4 on the par-5 14th hole.
David Gosselin, in his first A-10 Championship, is tied for 26th place with an opening round 79. He circled two birdies on his scorecard on the day, including the par 5, 538-yard 17th hole.
Patrick Pelletier is tied for 33rd place (81), while Andrew Fiorenzano is tied for 44th (84), rounding out the Rhody golfers.
Charlotte and Xavier are tied atop the team leaderboard, with a score of 290. The 49ers' Andy Sajevic and the Musketeers' Herbert Day each carded a 2-under score of 70 to lead the way for the individual crown.
Round two of the Atlantic 10 Championship commences at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, while final round action begins at 8 a.m. on Sunday, May 1.
