Box Score What It Means:
Rhode Island falls to 0-2 on the season after the 69-50 loss at Virginia Tech. The Rams enter two more tough matchups this weekend at Mohegan Sun - starting with 2012 Final Four participant Ohio State on Saturday.
Inside the Box Score and Beyond:
* Xavier Munford led Rhode Island with a team-high 24 points. The 6-2 junior guard was 11-of-22 from the floor, but just 1-of-9 from 3-point land and 1-of-5 from the charity stripe. He also added six boards and two steals in 38 minutes of action.
* Munford was not alone with his struggles from the perimeter. As a team, Rhody connected on just 1-of-21 from beyond the arc.
* On the season, Rhode Island is just 7-for-41 from the outside - 17.1%.
* Mike Aaman played 23 minutes and grabbed seven rebounds.
* The first half featured runs by both the Rams and the Hokies. VT opened up the game with 13 unanswered points. Rhody followed with an 8-0 run, making it 13-8 with 11:38 left after a Munford jumper. The Hokies then responded with a 11-2 push before Rhody cut it to four - 28-24 - with 2 minutes left after a 14-4 scoring run. That was as close as Rhody would get and Virginia Tech closed the half on an 8-0 run.
* T.J. Buchanan re-injured his right toe early in the first half and did not return.
* The Rams committed seven second half turnovers.
* Andre Malone and Nikola Malesevic combined to connect on all seven of their free throw attempts. For the season, they're a combined 22-of-26.
