Rhode Island drops a pivotal game in the A-10 standings at Charlotte, 73-66, at Halton Arena. It is the Rams' third straight loss and ninth in 11 conference games. URI drops to 5-21 overall on the season.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE AND BEYOND
* Billy Baron led all scorers with 24 points. It was his team-best fifth game with 20 or more points and the seventh time he led the Rams in scoring.
* Orion Outerbridge was the only other Ram in double-figures, with 14 points – his 16th game in double digits and 27th of his career.
* Leading rebounder Jonathan Holton was saddled with foul trouble (17 minutes), Outerbridge, Dominique McKoy, and Anthony Malhoit picked up the slack on the glass.
* Both players combined for 11 points and three steals as well.
* Each of the three players pulled down eight rebounds. For McKoy and Malhoit, the eight boards set a new career-high.
* The Rhode Island bench outscored Charlotte's, 17-7
* Charlotte connected on 57.7% (15-26) of its field goals in the first half, but Rhody's defensive adjustments at the half limited the 49ers to just nine field goals on 37.5% shooting.
* The 49ers had 38 free throw opportunities, while Rhode Island had 20.
* Rhode Island's seven assists tied a season-low. The Rams had just seven dimes earlier this year in a loss at Brown.
* Nikola Malesevic missed the game and and did not make the trip to the Queen City after being suspended indefinitely due to a violation of team rules.
