Rhode Island falls to 2-8 in Atlantic 10 play with an 84-66 decision at Xavier. The loss – the fifth in a row versus the Musketeers – drops the Rams to 5-20 overall on the season.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE AND BEYOND
* Billy Baron scored 17 of his game-high 22 points in the second half. Baron was 7-of-12 from the floor – including 2-of-4 from the outside. He also knocked down 6-of-7 from the foul line in 38 minutes.
* Orion Outerbridge was the only other Ram in double-figures, with 13 points to go along with six rebounds.
* The 6-9 senior blocked two shots, giving him 92 for his career and moving him into 10th place all-time on the Rhode Island blocked shots list.
* A game after going 3-for-3 from the outside, Jonathan Holton missed all four attempts from 3-point land. The freshman ended with nine points, five rebounds, and two assists.
* T.J. Buchanan tied his career-best with seven points. He knocked down 3-of-4 from the field.
* Rhody scored just 17 points in the first half – the lowest single-half scoring total of the season.
* Defensively, the Rams gave up their season-high in field goal percentage, as Xavier connected on 70.4% from the floor in the second half.
* Both teams combined for 33 turnovers -16 for URI, 17 for X.
* Xavier outscored Rhode Island, 24-9 in fast break points and 33-13 in bench scoring.
