Rhode Island (18-24) had a tough day, getting beat by identical 8-0 scores in both ends of a non-conference doubleheader at Boston University. The Terriers (27-13) ended each game via the 8-run rule in the fifth inning.
How It Happened
Boston University's pitching was dominant, allowing just one hit on the day. In the first game, BU's Holly Floetker pitched a no-hitter, striking out seven of the 16 batters she faced. Junior Whitney Tuthill pitched nearly as well in Game 2, allowing just one hit and also striking out seven batters.
Top Performances
* Junior Erika Szymanski had Rhode Island's lone hit of the day, a single in the second game.
* Freshman Meg Kelly continues to rack up the bruises. She was hit by a pitch for a team-leading seventh time this season during Game 1. Defensively she had a team-best seven putouts Thursday.
* Sophomore Amy Gleason made her first two starts of the season, getting the nod at shortstop in both games. She had four assists and one putout on the day.
* Sophomore Stacey Fox was hit by a pitch in the first game, the sixth time she has been plunked this year.

Rhode Island has a young lineup, as three of the four players who have started all 42 games - Jocelyn Mattison, Stacey Fox and Meg Kelly – are either sophomores or freshmen. Rhody's freshman and sophomore classes have combined for 200 starts in the field (including pitchers), while the juniors and seniors have combined for 221.
What's Next
Rhode Island is back at home Friday for a doubleheader against Atlantic 10 opponent Temple. The teams originally were scheduled to play single games Friday and Saturday, but with potential inclement weather on the way this weekend, there will be two games Friday instead.
