Women's Soccer Downs Bryant, 2-1

How it Happened:

The Rams (4-1-0) defeated Bryant (3-2-0) 2-1 behind the goals of Lucy Gildein (Topsfield, Mass.) and Ashley Evangelista (Methuen, Mass.). In the first half Gildein got Rhody on the board in the 10th minute when her cross from the right side found the back of the net bouncing off Bryant keeper, Lauren Viverito.

Evangelista scored in the second half at the 53rd minute mark when she took a pass from Gildein and carried the ball into the box beating the keeper for a 2-0 lead. Bryant inched closer in the 69th minute when Alex Bengston received a cross in front of the net and was able to put it away. The Rams battled through the rest of the half, holding Bryant scoreless to seal the victory.

Inside the Box Score:

  • The Rams just out shot the Bulldogs, with 13 shots compared to Bryant's 12.
  • Rhode Island held the lead in corners with six, while Bryant had two.
  • Both teams recorded the same amount of fouls with 10 and yellow cards, with two apiece.
  • Rhode Island's Gildein registered three points in the game (1G, 1A).
  • Rhody keeper, Reilly Lindsey (Bridgewater, Mass.), recorded six saves on the day.

What's Next:

Rhode Island faces Holy Cross (1-2-1) Tuesday at the URI Soccer Complex. Game time is set for 7 p.m.  Later in the week the Rams hit the road on Friday squaring off against New Hampshire (1-3-0) at 7 p.m.
