RHODE ISLAND VS. BROWN

  • Rhode Island continues its longest rivalry when it hosts Brown for the 154th time in a non-conference matchup.
  • URI holds a 100-53 lead in the all-time series, dating back to the 1909-10 season.  
  • The Rams dropped a 65-56 decision last season at the Pizzitola Center in Providence (Nov. 30, 2011), snapping URI's nine-game win streak against the Bears.
  • Rhode Island has captured nine of the last 10 and 14 of the last 15 meetings between the two schools.
  • URI is 61-14 all-time playing at home, including capturing the last 14 meetings in Kingston.  

RHODE ISLAND VERSUS THE IVY LEAGUE

  • Rhode Island is 116-65 against teams that are members of the Ivy League.
  • Outside of Brown (153 meetings) - the Rams are 16-12 against Ivy League opponents.
  • Rhody's second most common Ivy foe is Yale (5-7), followed by Harvard (7-2).
  • URI has never faced Cornell or Columbia on the hardwood.  

RHODE ISLAND AT THE THOMAS M. RYAN CENTER

  • This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Ryan Center - the home of URI men's and women's basketball.
  • URI holds a 105-56 regular season record in the Ryan Center since the arena opened for play on Nov. 26, 2002 with a 73-71 victory over USC.
  • Last season's victory over Hofstra on Nov. 25, 2011 was the 100th on the Ryan Center floor.
  • The Rams have won 11 or more home games on five occasions - including a program-record 15 in 2009-10.

LAST TIME OUT - SAINT MARY'S 82, RHODE ISLAND 59 - DECEMBER 27

  • Xavier Munford led all scorers with 20 points.  Munford connected on 7-of-16 from the floor (3-6 3FG) and added two assists and two steals in 38 minutes.  
  • Mike Powell and Andre Malone each added 12 points - rounding out the Rams in double figures.
  • Jordan Hare had eight points - including two thunderous dunks - upping his season total of 16 slams.
  • Saint Mary's held a 23-8 advantage in free throws attempted, as the foul count was 19-9 Rhode Island until late in the game.
  • While going to the line just eight times, the Rams made six of their attempts - good for 75.0%.  It marks the fourth straight game in which Rhody shot better than 70.0% from the charity stripe.
  • Rhode Island grabbed just 17 rebounds as a team - the lowest team rebounding mark in more than 17 years.
  • Rhody totaled nine turnovers in the game - the third time the Rams logged single-digits in the turnover column this season.
  • The 82 points allowed was the most allowed by the Rams' defense this season and the 52.7% field goal defense mark was the highest since Jan. 7, 2012 vs. Richmond (52.8%).

  • This marks the latest date that Rhody and Brown have played their annual game since the 1992-93 season.  
  • That year, the Rams and Bears played on Jan. 25, 1993 at Keaney Gymnasium.  
  • Rhody is 68-41 in games played as the calendar turns from December to January.  
  • From 1998-2006, URI dropped its first game of the New Year.  
  • Last year, URI earned a 78-72 double-overtime win at Boston College on Jan. 2 to ring in the 2012 calendar year.

MUNFORD RANKS SECOND IN ATLANTIC 10 IN SCORING

  • Junior guard Xavier Munford ranks second in scoring in the Atlantic 10 (through games of Jan. 3).
  • The Hillside, N.J. native checks in at 17.4 points per game, which also ranks him among the top 75 players nationally.
  • He has registered five of Rhody's top six scoring performances this season, including a 33-point effort at Auburn.

RAMS FINISHING UP ONE OF NATION'S TOUGHEST NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULES

  • Tonight, Rhode Island closes out a difficult and challenging non-conference schedule in 2012-13.  
  • Through games of Dec. 25, the combined record of URI opponents is 98-58 and URI's strength of schedule is 21.
  • The 2011-12 win-loss record of Rhode Island's non-conference slate was: 290-182 (.614).
  • Nine of the Rams 13 OOC opponents won 21 or more games and eight played in the postseason in 2011-12.
  • Three teams - Norfolk State, Loyola (Md.), and Vermont - won their conference tournaments in 2012.
  • Ohio State advanced to the 2012 NCAA Final Four and was one point away from playing in the national championship game.

MUNFORD'S SECOND HALF SCORING

  • Xavier Munford has scored in double figures in the second half of the last three games for Rhode Island.
  • Last time out at Saint Mary's, Munford had 11 of his game-high 20 points in the second half.
  • Against Georgia State, Munford poured in all of his 17 points in the second half - including 12 straight for the Rams during a 2:40 span.
  • He also tallied 11 second half points against SMU at home on Dec. 15.
  • For the season, 10.0 of Munford's 17.4 points per game are coming in the second half.

TURN AROUND ON TURNOVER COUNT

  • Through their first 12 games, the Rams are averaging just 11.4 turnovers per contest - good for 27th nationally.
  • A season ago, Rhode Island averaged 14.5 turnovers per game, which ranked 247th nationally.
  • The Rams registered a season-low six turnovers against George Mason on Nov. 28.
  • That was the lowest TO mark since Rhody committed a program record-low two turns against Nevada (March 22, 2010).
  • Last season, Rhode Island had just eight games with 11 or fewer turnovers.
