NEWARK, N.J. - After two days of competition at the NJIT Invitational, three Rams remain alive in the main draw. Top-seeded sophomore Galina Chernykh will play for the Flight A championship title on Sunday after posting straight-set victories over Adina Halagian (St. Peter's), Jana Luste (NJIT) and Ksenija Tihomirova (NJIT). It is the second title Chernykh will play for this season as she opened the year by capturing the top flight title at the Stony Brook Classic.
In Flight B singles, junior Nithila Asokaraj defeated Saint Joseph's Arianne Polatnick (6-4, 6-4) and NJIT's Carolina Zanotta (6-2, 6-1) in straight sets. She, too, advances to the flight finals after rallying back from a first-set loss and taking down the No. 1 seed Paulina Torres (Albany) 3-6, 6-4, 10-6.
Competing in Flight D, freshman Jordan Rucks made her way through to the semifinals by way of wins over Mariah Wardius (Sacred Heart) and Kaye Eastman (Marist). She opens play on Sunday vs. Albany's Cathryn Crummey and will advance to the flight finals with a victory.
