DAVIDSON, N.C. -
Nikki Fernando became Rhode Island's all-time leader in doubles victories and added a singles win. Despite her big day, the Rams (10-7, 1-1 Atlantic 10) came up just short in a 4-3 loss at Davidson Friday.
Fernando and
Kajsa Helgesen defeated Savanna Kollock and Bryson Lagford, 6-4. The win was the 65th doubles win for Fernando, setting a new URI program record. She passed Tristany Leikem, who won 64 doubles matches from 2008-12.
Despite the win at No. 1 doubles, Rhody dropped the doubles point to the Wildcats (8-5, 3-0 A-10). Davidson also won at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 singles to secure the victory.
Fernando picked up a three-set win over Langford at No. 2 singles. She rallied after dropping the first set to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Also winning in three sets for the Rams were
Anastasia Pettersson at No. 5 singles and
