Rams Come Up Empty Against Xavier

How It Happened
A cold shooting night hurt Rhode Island (8-17, 3-9 Atlantic 10) as the Rams fell 55-42 to Xavier Wednesday.

Rhody shot just 24.1 percent from the floor, including 16.7 percent from 3-point range. Nikola Malesevic, Mike Powell and Andre Malone combined to go 1-for-17 from behind the arc.

Xavier (15-10, 8-4 Atlantic 10) was led by forward Travis Taylor, who had a double-double with 13 points and 17 rebounds. Taylor scored 10 points and had 13 of his boards in the second half. Guard Semaj Christon added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Musketeers.

* Xavier Munford again led Rhode Island with 15 points. It was his 22nd game in double figures, including the 10th game in a row.

* Freshman Mike Aaman was one of the few bright spots for the Rams. He had eight points and two rebounds in 14 minutes of work. Aaman made 4-of-5 from the free throw line. After starting the season making just four of his first 10 free throws, he has made 17-of-20 since Dec. 1.

* Seniors Andre Malone and Nikola Malesevic combined to go 2-for-18 from the floor. Malone did manage eight points and six rebounds.

* Xavier enjoyed a big advantage at the free throw line. The Musketeers made 17-of-24 from the line, while the Rams were 11-for-17.

* Despite the struggles shooting, the Rams committed just eight turnovers.

* Xavier had the edge on the boards, outrebounding Rhode Island 45-29. 

What's Next

The Rams host La Salle Sunday, Feb. 24. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. The game is part of a doubleheader with the Rhode Island women's team, which hosts Saint Louis at 5 p.m.
