Box Score How it Happened
Rhode Island (2-35) broke a scoreless tie with a run in the top of the sixth inning, but Boston College responded with seven in the bottom of the inning for a 7-1 victory Tuesday afternoon.
Rhody's Andrea Chiaradio and Jessica Dreswick of Boston College (20-19) engaged in a pitching duel, matching scoreless frames for five innings. With one out and runners at the corners, Rhode Island's Megan Congro blooped a single to right to drive in Marylynn Muldowney with the first run of the day.
In the bottom of the inning, a leadoff walk to Jordan Weed and a bunt single by Megan Cooley put the first two runners on. An error allowed BC's Jessie Daulton to reach, with pinch runner Annie Sommers and Cooley both scoring on the play to give the Eagles the lead.
A fielder's choice and a caught stealing resulted in two outs and appeared to stem BC's momentum. However, the Eagles strung together two singles, a triple, a walk and a three-run home run from Madison Paulson to add five more runs and put the game away.
