HAMDEN, Conn. -- Rhode Island's Taylor Holden and Galina Chernykh each won their A Flight singles matches in day one of the Quinnipiac Invitational.  

Holden won, 6-2, 6-3 against Luize Strike of Seton Hall.  Chernykh earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Lindsey Post of Sacred Heart.

Two Rams played in the B Flight singles bracket, as Anna Peacock dropped a three-set match (6-2, 4-6, 7-10) in her opener, while Elizaveta Sadovnikova fell, 5-7, 2-6.  Jordan Rucks lost, 4-6, 2-6 in her C Flight competition.

In doubles play, Holden and Sadovnikova lost, 6-4, in their opening match in the A bracket.  Peacock and Rucks advanced to the quarterfinals of the B Doubles flight, earning a 6-1 win before falling 3-6 in the next round.

Overall, the Rams went 1-2 in doubles and 2-3 in singles. Rhody continues play at the Quinnipiac Invitational tomorrow and Sunday.
