PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Rhode Island made quick work of Saint Joseph's winning four singles matches in straight sets to claim a 4-0 win over the Hawks Saturday night.

Originally scheduled to be played outdoors at 10 a.m., the match was delayed seven hours and moved to an indoor facility. Due to the late start, the teams opened with singles play, rather than the usual format of doubles first.

URI (9-6, 1-0 Atlantic 10) got wins in the top three singles slots, as well as No. 5 singles.

Nikki Fernando, Grace Darcy and Sophie Herrman each gave up just five games while winning their respective matches. Fernando beat Wiktoria Czerny 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while Darcy defeated Valeria Casusol 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2. Herrman won her match against Elena Fleming 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.

Rhody clinched the team win when Anastasia Pettersson beat June Tronhus 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 singles. Play was halted was Rhody also leading at No. 4 and No. 6 singles. There was no doubles play.

"The team was locked in today from start to finish," Rhode Island head coach Jonas Brobeck said. "We are excited to compete about a great Drexel team tomorrow."

Rhode Island will stay in the City of Brotherly Love to take on Drexel beginning at 10 a.m.
