Rhody Falls to James Madison in Finale, 55-21

How It Happened
Rhode Island's season came to an end with a 55-21 loss to No. 2 James Madison Saturday afternoon.

James Madison (11-1, 8-0 CAA Football) scored the first 31 points of the game, getting a 1-yard touchdown pass from Ben DiNucci to Riley Stapleton in the first quarter to build a 10-0 lead.

An 85-yard punt return for a touchdown by D'Angelo Amos in the second quarter extended the lead to 17-0. From there, the Dukes used its ground game to wear the Rams down. Jawon Hamilton and Percy Agyei-Obese combined for 248 yards and three rushing touchdowns, helping the Dukes control the game throughout.

Rhode Island (2-10, 0-8 CAA Football) broke through in the third quarter when Vito Priore hit Caleb Warren for a 2-yard touchdown pass. Ahmere Dorsey later added an 89-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, but Rhode Island was never able to truly challenge the James Madison lead.

  • Senior Ahmere Dorsey's 89-yard kick return for a touchdown was the fourth of his career.
  • With 205 special teams yards, Dorsey finished the season with 1,181 combined kick and punt returns. It is the second straight year he has topped 1,000 yards. He is the only Rhode Island player to reach the milestone.
  • Senior wide receiver Aaron Parker had five catches for 66 yards and one touchdown.
  • His touchdown catch was the 30th of his career, making him the third player in program history to reach the mark. The others were Dameon Reilly (38 from 1983-85) and Brian Forster (32 from 1983-85, 87).
  • Parker finished his career with 216 receptions for 3,460 yards. Both figures rank second in program history.
  • Junior Isaiah Coulter had seven catches for 65 yards, finishing the year with 72 catches and 1,039 yards. He and Parker are just the second pair of Rhode Island players to top 1,000 yards in the same season.
  • Sophomore Caleb Warren's touchdown catch was the first of his career.
  • Redshirt junior Vito Priore was 23-of-42 for 208 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Redshirt sophomore Jake Fire led the defense with 10 tackles.
  • Senior defensive end Keith Wells added eight tackles.
  • Senior linebacker Branyan Javier-Castillo had six tackles and one forced fumble.
  • Redshirt sophomore Malik Gavek had five tackles and one fumble recovery.
  • Senior tackle Kevin Lawrence was the anchor bearer, while senior safety Brian Campbell served as the game captain.
  • The attendance was 2,815.
