How it Happened
Rhode Island dropped a 75-63 battle at Quinnipiac Saturday afternoon.
An intense Rhody defense held Quinnipiac without a basket until 6:16 in the first. The Bobcats went 0-for-7 to start the game. For the second straight game, Rhody held its opponent to single digits in the first quarter, as the Rams were up 17-8 in the first.
In the second, Rhody established its biggest lead of the game, going up by 10 points after an Erin Jones layup. The Bobcats used a 6-0 run to cut the Rhody advantage to 28-27, but a buzzer-beater 3-pointer by Jones put the Rams up 31-27 going into the locker room.
Rhody committed six fouls in the third, sending Qinnipiac to the line to score seven of its 22 points in the quarter at the charity stripe. A Shaq Edwards 3-pointer tied the game at 49-49 with 20 seconds on the clock.
Quinnipiac opened the fourth with back-to-back 3-pointers to give them a comfortable lead. Rhody forced two straight turnovers and was able to execute to get within four (67-63) with just over two minutes remaining. It wasn't enough, however, as the Bobcats connected on six straight free throws down the stretch.
Inside the Box Score
- Redshirt junior Erin Jones had a career-high 20 points to go with 14 rebounds for her second straight double-double performance. She shot 7-of-11 from the floor, including 4-of-5 from behind the arc.
- Redshirt senior Davida Dale was the second Ram in double figures, pouring in 16. She added 11 rebounds, seven assists, three blocks, and two steals in 40 minutes.
- The Rams had 12 blocked shots, tying the record for the most ever in a single-game.
- Senior Nicole Jorgensen had nine points and nine boards. She blocked five shots in limited minutes due to foul trouble.
- Redshirt sophomore Jessica Rogers made her second straight start for the Rams, adding six points and two rebounds.
- Rhody held Quinnipiac to eight points on 3-of-21 shooting in the first, marking the sixth time in 11 games the Rams have held an opponent to single digits in the first quarter.

Rhody continues its road swing, closing out non-conference play at Harvard on Dec. 30. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
