How it Happened
Rhode Island rallied in the second half to win its sixth straight game, knocking off St. Bonaventure, 81-75, Saturday afternoon.
St. Bonaventure used 3-point shooting and significant time at the free throw line to build a 40-35 lead at the half. The Bonnies started the game 5-of-7 from 3-point range and hit 13-of-14 at the line in the opening 20 minutes. Rhode Island was 8-for-11 at the line, as the teams were whistled for a combined 21 fouls in the first half.
Rhode Island began the second half on a 7-0 run, taking a 42-40 lead on an Antwan Walker layup with 17:41 to go. The teams traded baskets over the next few minutes, but a Fatts Russell 3-pointer put Rhody ahead 50-47 with 14:33 to go. The Rams never relinquished the lead.
The Rams pushed the lead to as many as eight points, but St. Bonaventure did not go away. A Justin Winston 3-pointer closed the gap to 69-66 with 4:02. From there, Rhode Island got the lead back to eight on 3-pointers from Tyrese Martin and Russell, but a back-to-back baskets from Kyle Lofton got the Bonnies back within four at 75-71.
The Rams responded with dunks from Jacob Toppin and Jeff Dowtin to effectively ice the game. Russell capped the scoring with two free throws as Rhode Island picked up the win.

- In addition to winning its sixth straight game overall, Rhode Island won its fifth straight Atlantic 10 road game, dating back to last season.
- The win marked the third time in four games Rhode Island has come back from a halftime deficit to win. The Rams rallied from six down at Saint Joseph's, eight down against Duquesne and five down against the Bonnies.
- In those three games, the Rams have outscored opponents by a combined 57 points in the second half.
- After St. Bonaventure was 5-of-7 from 3-point range to start the game, Rhody's defense held the Bonnies to 2-of-12 from deep the rest of the way.
- Senior Cyril Langevine had his fifth double-double of the season, finishing with 13 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals.
- Junior Fatts Russell had a game-high 29 points, his sixth game this season with 25 or more. More impressively, he had the 29 points on just 14 field goal attempts.
- Rhody is now 18-4 over the last three seasons when Russell has 20 or more.
- Russell was 5-of-9 from 3-point range, and 8-for-8 at the free throw line.
- Senior Jeff Dowtin filled the stat sheet, getting 11 points, six rebounds, four assists, three steals and one blocked shot.
- Sophomore Tyrese Martin just missed his second straight double-double, ending the game with 14 points and nine rebounds.
- Freshman Jacob Toppin offered seven points and four rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench.
- A sellout crowd of 5,460 turned the Reilly Center into a postseason-type atmosphere.
