KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island women's tennis coach Val Villucci announced that Klara Nelander as signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Rams in 2021-22.

The left-handed Nelander is a native of Skanor, Sweden. She worked with the Lehnoff Tennis International program to help get her on the recruiting map for programs in the United States.

"Klara is a solid, mature player who will add to the depth of our singles lineup," Villucci said of the 5-4 Nelander. "What makes her even more special is her ability to be an impact player in our doubles lineup. I look forward to her growing even more once competing at the Division I level." 

Lehnoff Tennis International works specifically with Swedish recruits looking to play in the United States. In recent years, the program has connected more than 40 men's and women's players with American schools. Among them are Richmond's Sara Salemyr (Fall 2020) and St. Bonaventure's Alexandra Jansson (Fall 2021).
