How it Happened
Rhode Island fell 60-50 at Fordham Wednesday.
Rhody got off to a slow start, making just 3 of its first 13 shots from the field. Fordham had a 15-6 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
Nicole Jorgensen started the second period with six straight points to cut the Fordham lead to five (17-12). That would be as close as the Rams of Kingston would get. Fordham closed out the quarter on a 12-3 run to build its lead to 17 (34-17) after Anna DeWolfe completed a classic three-point play.
In the third quarter, Davida Dale hit a 3-pointer to trim the Fordham lead to 36-27 with 4:51 remaining. Two successful trips to the foul line put the Rams of the Bronx back with a comfortable lead (40-27). Rhody ended the quarter on a 8-2 run to go into the final period down 49-38.
Rhode Island held Fordham without a field goal in the fourth until the 6:23 mark after a Bre Cavanaugh jumper (51-40). Rhody used a 6-0 run with points from Haby Niang (4) and Dale (2) to make it 58-48 with 1:38 remaining in the game. Jorgensen made both at the line to cut the lead to eight (58-50), but it wasn't enough as Anna DeWolfe made both at the line in the final minute.
