How It Happened
Rhode Island was swept in its first match of 2020-21, the spring season, falling to Boston University 7-0 at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I. Saturday afternoon.
Redshirt senior
Rachel Smilansky and junior
Sydney Chratian paired up to win their match at No. 2 doubles, 6-3. However, Boston University won at both No. 1 and No. 3 to take the doubles point.
Sophomore
Nadia Rajan gave Rhode Island (0-1) its best singles effort of the day, battling to a third-set super-tiebreaker. After dropping the opening set to Emily Kim, 6-3, Rajan came back and won the second set by the same score. Kim outlasted Rajan, 11-9, in the third set.

Tiara Higuchi also lost a tough three-set battle. She took the opening set 6-3 against BU's Katya Martens. Martens evened the score by winning the second set 6-4, then clinched the tiebreaker, 10-7.
