How It Happened
Nadia Rajan and
Erin Chratian led Rhode Island to its sixth straight victory, as the Rams won at in-state rival Bryant Tuesday afternoon, 5-2.
Â
After Bryant won at No. 3 doubles to start the day,
Sydney Chratian and
Rachel Smilansky got Rhode Island even with a win at No. 2 doubles. Rajan and
Erin Chratian then won 6-4 at the top doubles spot to give the Rams a 1-0 lead.
URI (6-1) took a 2-0 lead when Rajan made quick work of Bryant's Ada Boru at No. 1 singles. Rajan breezed through the first set, 6-1, then ended any thoughts of a comeback for Boru by taking the second set, 7-5, to earn the sweep.
The Bulldogs (3-5) managed to tie the team score with victories at No. 3 and No. 6 singles. However,
Erin Chratian put the Rams in front to stay by winning a three-set battle against Sarah Hickey. Hickey took the first set, 6-2. Chratian rallied to win the second and third sets by scores of 6-4 and 6-2.
Â
Rachel Smilansky sealed the win with her straight-set win over Camila Baeza at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 7-6. With the win, Smilansky improved to 5-0 in singles play this season.
Tiara Higuchi recorded her team-leading sixth singles victory by beating Camila Baeza, 6-4, 7-6.
Â
This was the second match between Rhode Island and Bryant this season. The Rams also won March 6 by a score of 4-3.
