How it Happened
Rhode Island rallied from an early deficit to defeat St. Bonaventure 8-3 Friday and move into second place in the Atlantic 10 North Division in the process.
The Rams (18-19-1, 6-3 A-10) trailed 2-0 after two innings, but they scored seven runs over the next three innings to take command of the game. A three-run home run by
Xavier Vargas gave URI the lead in the top of the third, and Rhody never looked back from there.
After Vargas put the team ahead 3-2, Rhody got back-to-back bases loaded walks in the fourth inning from
Sonny Ulliana and Vargas to extended the lead to 5-2. An inning later,
Josh Brodeur's two-run single gave Rhode Island breathing room with a 7-2 lead.
Starter
Ryan Twitchell (3-1) handled St. Bonaventure (5-19, 4-9 A-10) from there. He allowed two runs on seven hits over six innings to secure the victory.
