Position Preview - Rams Ready to Power Offensive in the Trenches

OFFENSIVE LINE
KINGSTON, R.I. – Arguably the strongest and deepest unit for Rhode Island in 2021 will be its offensive line, where the Rams return 11 players – including the entire starting five from the spring.

All 14 of the linemen are redshirt sophomores or younger, meaning the Rams are well stocked for the foreseeable future.

Redshirt sophomores Nick Correia (Nantucket, Mass.) and Evan Lovell (Thomaston, Conn.) have both started 15 consecutive games for the Rams. Correia was a second-team All-CAA Football selection at right guard in the spring, while Lovell has primarily served as the team's left guard for two seasons. He made one start at left tackle in place of current New York Giant Kyle Murphy in 2019.

In between Correia and Lovell is redshirt sophomore Sebastian Delasoudas (Ft. Lee, N.J.). Selected as a team captain in the spring, Delasoudas is the leader of the offensive unit. The interior trio of the line is a major reason Rhode Island averaged 147.7 rushing yards per game last spring, third best in the conference.

Redshirt sophomore Lorenzo Thompson (Syracuse, N.Y.) has 16 games under his belt, including four career starts. He manned the left tackle spot in the spring, while redshirt freshman Jordan Riendeau (Narragansett, R.I.) started all three games at right tackle. Freshman Ajani Cornelius (New York City, N.Y.) made his collegiate debut at right tackle against Delaware last spring after missing much of the spring with an injury.

Redshirt freshmen Sean Connolly (River Vale, N.J.) and Montaner Fresilli (South Kingstown, R.I.) have both seen times as reserves and are entering their third year in the program. Freshmen Adam McKanna (Summerville, S.C.), Jacob Otts (Saint Johns's, Fla) and Omar Reyes (Cranston, R.I.) were with the team last year and will compete for time in camp as well.

The Rams also added three freshmen linemen over the summer. Trent Allen (Windermere, Fla.), Richard King (Cranston, R.I.) and Kai Rose (Martha's Vineyard, Mass.) provide significant depth and potential in the trenches.
