KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island men's soccer team has broken into the national rankings, checking in at #20 in
TopDrawerSoccer's latest poll. The Rams also earned a #30 ranking by
College Soccer News.
The national attention follows a 2-0 week where the Rams defeated in-state rival Brown (3-1), before knocking off previously 22nd-ranked VCU (2-1) in double overtime. The wins extended URI's unbeaten (5-0-1) streak to six games.
As a team, Rhody ranks second in the nation in shots on goal per game (8.43) and ninth nationally in shot accuracy (0.536). Individually, three-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week
Isak Oystese is the nation's leader in game-winning goals (3) while A-10 Player of the Week
Patrick Agyemang leads the country in shots on goal per game (2.71). Agyemang also ranks 12th nationally in total goals (5) and 14th in total points (12).
Defensively, redshirt senior goalkeeper
Stefan Schmidt owns the nation's eighth-best saves total, making 31 stops through URI's seven games.Â
The Rams are back in action tomorrow night, when they close out non-conference play at UAlbany.
