RHODE ISLAND VS. UALBANY - SERIES NOTES
- Saturday's matchup will be the 10th between Rhode Island and UAlbany all time, with the Rams holding a slight 5-4 advantage in the series.
- The Great Danes are 2-1 when visiting Meade Stadium.
- Rhode Island has won each of the last two meetings in the series, and four of the last five overall.
- Last season URI won 16-14 at UAlbany. Rhode Island limited the Great Danes to 215 total yards of offense. Defensive tackle Westley Neal, Jr. had seven tackles, including five tackles for loss and one sack. Safety Henry Yianakopolos added five tackles and one interception.
- URI is looking for its seventh win, and its first season with five league wins since 2001.
- UAlbany has won two of its last three contests, including a 23-21 victory over Maine last weekend.
- Of the nine previous games between URI and UAlbany, four have been decided by one score, and two have gone to overtime.
RAMS TO HONOR SENIORS BEFORE KICKOFF
- Rhode Island will honor 18 seniors before their final regular-season game.
- The seniors being honored are defensive lineman Jasyn Andrews; offensive lineman Daniel Ayriyan; linebacker Danilson Daveiga; running back Marques Deshields; linebacker Jake Fire; offensive lineman Montaner Frsilli; safety Malik Gavek; tight end JT Gibbons; quarterback Kasim Hill; cornerback Jordan Jones; wide receiver Ed Lee; safety Oneil "Buzz" Robinson; safety A.J. Rogers; punter Davey Schaum-Bartocci; wide receiver Pedro Schmidt; tight end Caleb Warren; kicker/punter Henry Westermann; and safety Henry Yianakopolos.
- Over the last five years, this class had three consecutive winning seasons and four in the last five years. Last time URI had three straight winning seasons was 1983-85.
- The group's 23 wins in five years is most in any five-year stretch in more than three decades (This is despite only playing three games in 2020-21 COVID season).
- The group had four wins over Top 25 teams in the last three seasons. URI had five Top 25 wins in previous 13 seasons.
RAMS FIGHTING FOR FCS POSTSEASON SPOT
- Saturday's loss at New Hampshire was a blow to Rhode Island's postseason aspirations, but the Rams still have a chance to claim an at-large bid.
- The FCS playoffs include 24 teams (10 automatic bids, 14 at-large).
- One of the automatic bids come from the following: Atlantic Sun/WAC collaborative; the Big Sky; the Big South; the CAA; the Missouri Valley; the NEC; the Ohio Valley; the Patriot League; the Pioneer League; and the Southern Conference.
- Since the FCS moved to its current 24-team playoff format, there have been 15 teams that finished with seven victories.
- Of those 15, eight had a 5-3 CAA record.
- Of the eight teams that went 7-4/5-3, six earned FCS playoff spots.
- No CAA school that finished with seven wins overall and a 4-4 mark in league play earned a spot in the postseason.
- URI enters Saturday's game with a 6-4 record overall and a 4-3 mark in league play.
- A victory would make the Rams 7-4 overall and 5-3 in league play.
- Delaware and the Rams are currently tied in the CAA Football standings.
- The Blue Hens play at Villanova this weekend, and a loss would make Delaware 7-4 overall and 4-4 in league play.
- Despite a loss to Delaware, a Rhode Island win this weekend and a Blue Hen loss would mean the Rams finish ahead of Delaware in the final standings.
- The CAA has had five or six teams in both national Top 25 polls throughout the season, so the league getting five postseason teams in not out of the question.
