Rhode Island Settles In at No. 22 in Both Top 25 Polls

KINGSTON, R.I. - With two weeks remaining in the regular season, Rhode Island has landed at No. 22 in both national FCS Top 25 polls, which were released Monday.

The Rams picked up five points and moved up one spot in the Stats Perform Top 25 following the team's 26-22 victory over Maine. Rhode Island finished with 228 points, coming in one spot behind this week's opponent, New Hampshire. The Wildcats has 260 points in the poll.

In the AFCA Coaches Poll, Rhode Island improved by 30 points, but remained in the same spot in the poll. With 140 points, URI was five points behind fellow CAA Football member Elon, a team the Rams defeated head-to-head on Oct. 15. New Hampshire came in at No. 25 in the AFCA poll this week.

The CAA continues to be well represented, getting six teams into both polls. No. 8/8 William & Mary, No. 12/13 Richmond, No. 17/15 Delaware, No. 18/21 Elon, No. 22/22 Rhode Island and No. 21/25 New Hampshire are all in both.

Based on where the teams currently sit in both polls, this week's game between Rhode Island and New Hampshire essentially takes the shape of an early playoff game. Both teams sit at 6-3 overall with two games to go. Historically, the magic number has been eight wins. Every CAA team that has reached eight wins has qualified for the FCS postseason since the playoff format expanded to 24 teams in 2013.

There have been 15 CAA Football teams to finish the regular season with seven victories. Of those 15, six got into the FCS playoffs. All six of those teams had at least five conference wins. None of the seven-win teams that had a 4-4 mark in league play qualified.
