KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island men's golf head coach
Gregg Burke announced that Sebastian Carlsson has committed to the Rams for the 2023-24 season.
The Narragansett High School product is already a two-time All-State selection for the Mariners with one more season to go. In 2022, his second-place finish at the R.I. Golf State Championship led Narragansett to its first team title in seven years.
His stellar 2022 campaign also included a title at the McCampbell Cup Champion, a tie for second place at the Ocean State Junior Classic and a run to the semifinals at the Rhode Island Junior Amateur Championship. In the year-end Challenge Cup Tournament of Champions, he placed second. Carlsson also represented team Rhode Island in the New England Junior Championship 2022.Â
From 2019 through 2021, Carlsson was a seven-time winner on the New England PGA Junior Tour.
"Seb is a diamond in the rough," Burke said. "He shocked the Challenge Cup hierarchy all summer because no one knew who he was. His work ethic will fit in well with us and as he matures in the weight room and with on-course management, he will be a very solid starter for us."
A versatile athlete, Carlson also played soccer for four seasons as a defender and midfielder for Narragansett, while also running for the indoor track & field team. He helped the Mariners win a Division 3 state title in 2020 and then make a return trip to the title game in 2021.
Planning to major in Business, Carlsson chose Rhode Island over Franklin Pierce and Bryant. This spring he will be a team captain for the Narragansett golf team.
