Golf Closes Out Fall in Mexico at Monterrey Collegiate Classic

Tournament Stats

KINGSTON, R.I.
- Rhode Island wraps up the Fall portion of its season with a trip to Mexico for the Monterrey Collegiate Classic, which will be played Monday and Tuesday.

The 10-team field will play two rounds on the opening day, followed by a single round Tuesday.

Hosted by George Washington, the tournament is being played at Club Campastre Monterrey in San Pedro Garza Garcia, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The par-72 course is 7,258 yards long.

"Being able to travel to Mexico and compete in a terrific tournament has us both excited and grateful we could not do this without the largess of our donors," Rhode Island head coach Gregg Burke said. "This is an important tournament for us a chance to really find out who we are where each player is heading into the break between seasons."

In addition to the host Revolutionaries, Rhode Island will be going against a field that includes Drexel, Eastern Washington, Howard, Idaho, Loyola Maryland, North Dakota State, Utah State and Utah Tech.

"The field is really solid and it'll be a treat to see so many team we never see in tournaments," Burke said. "There's also a great opportunity for players as individuals to make a statement."

With a strong showing, Rhode Island could finish the Fall season among the top 150 programs in Division I in collegiate golf. In the latest Scoreboard rankings, the Rams are 160th in the nation, and fifth in the Atlantic 10, behind only VCU (103), Richmond (133), Dayton (137) and George Mason (158).

In the Monterrey field, Rhody is the fourth-highest ranked squad, behind Loyola Maryland (121), Eastern Washington (141), and Utah State (149).
