Box Score How It Happened
Liz Lynchard was dominant in the circle and Rhode Island defeated Stetson for the first time in program history to end the weekend on a high note, beating the host school 4-0 Sunday in the finale of the Hatter Classic.
Lynchard (3-3) allowed just one hit while throwing the first complete-game shutout of her career. She allowed multiple runners to reach in just one frame, the bottom of the sixth. Her performance helped the Rams (3-7) snap a six-game skid.
Rhode Island jumped out in front immediately, scoring twice in the top of the first.
Sami Villarreal reached on a one-out single before
Ari Castillo and
Rachel Zingerman drew back-to-back walks to load the bases.
Susan Harrison hit a cue shot toward first base that resulted in an RBI single that brought Villarreal in with the first run of the game.
Emily Power followed with a walk that forced Castillo in to make the score 2-0.
In the top of the sixth, the Rams loaded the bases for Sweson with one out. She lined a shot to right that was dropped by the outfielder, allowing
Skyler Rapuano and
Maddie Melice to double the URI lead to 4-0.
Stetson (9-7) managed just one hit off Lynchard, a two-out double in the first inning.

- Junior Liz Lynchard picked up her third victory of the season by hurling 7.0 shutout innings. She struck out eight while walking just two.

- Freshman Scarlet Anderson appeared as a pinch runner and drew a walk.
- Rhode Island's lineup drew six walks and struck out just four times.
What's Next
Rhode Island returns to Florida next week when it plays five contests at the Spring Games from March 4-6. URI will play games against LIU, Radford, Georgetown, Georgia Southern and Central Michigan.
