RHODE ISLAND VS. MASSACHUSETTS - SERIES NOTES
- Saturday's game will be the 160th meeting between Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
- It is the second meeting this season. Rhody won the first, 81-68, in Amherst on Jan. 15.
- The Rams have won eight of the last 11 meetings against Massachusetts.
- URI is 41-32 at home all time against the Minutemen.
- UMass won the last time the teams played in the Ryan Center, getting a 75-63 victory last Feb. 6.
- In the first meeting this season, center Makhel Mitchell matched his career high with 20 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field. He was one of four Rams in double figures, as Ishmael El-Amin had 16 while Jalen Carey and Malik Martin both scored 11 points.
- Massachusetts is one of the nation's most dangerous 3-point shooting teams. The Minutemen rank seventh in the country in 3-point shooting percentage at 39.6 percent.
- UMass is 11th nationally with 10.3 made 3-pointers per game and 23rd in made 3-pointers (207).
- Point guard Noah Fernandes is fifth in the Atlantic 10 and 24th nationally with 5.2 assists per game.
CAREY DELIVERS SEASON-HIGH IN POINTS
- Guard Jalen Carey had a season-high 12 points off the bench in Wednesday's game at Fordham.
- It matched his highest point total in two seasons with Rhode Island, as he also had 12 against South Florida last season.
- Against Fordham, Carey was 5-11 from the field while also dishing out a season-high three assists.
- Since the start of Atlantic 10 play, Carey is averaging 6.3 points off the bench while shooting .447 from the field, .500 from 3-point range and .769 at the free throw line.
- He has made one 3-point shot in five consecutive games and in eight of his last 10 games, going 8-for-14 overall.
- In his first 54 career games between Syracuse and URI, Carey had four 3-pointers (4-of-30).
THOMAS FINDS THE MARK FROM 3-POINT RANGE
- Freshman point guard Sebastian Thomas broke out at Fordham Wednesday night, scoring a career-high nine points.
- All of his points came on 3-point shots, as he was 3-for-4 from long range, all of which came in the second half.
- Entering the game, Thomas had been 3-for-19 from the perimeter.
- Thomas is second in the Atlantic 10 in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.87-1), behind only Richmond's Jacob Gilyard (3.59-1).
- Since the start of January, Thomas has 26 assists and just six turnovers in nine games.
- For the season, Thomas has 43 assists with 15 turnovers.
- Thomas is second on the team in assists trailing only starting guard Jeremy Sheppard (56).
- Despite being eighth in total playing time, Thomas has a plus-minus of +3.60 per game, which ranks third on the team.
