KINGSTON, R.I. – Boston University swept the doubles matches and then won the first three singles matches to hand Rhode Island a 4-0 loss at the URI Tennis Complex Saturday afternoon.
Rhode Island (6-8) dropped its sixth consecutive match.
Klara Nelander and
Sydney Chratian were leading their matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, when the match was halted. Once BU (6-7) clinched the team victory, the remaining matches were stopped.
Nelander led Sydney Sharma 6-4, 0-1 when their play was stopped. Chratian won her first set 6-3 over Emily Kim. Kim led 3-0 in the second set when play ended.
Tiara Higuchi was also in a competitive match at No. 4 singles for the Rams. After Michelle Kleynerman took the first set 6-2, Higuchi was in front 4-3 in the second set, but the match was not concluded.
The Rams get their first taste of Atlantic 10 play next weekend. URI travels to Philadelphia to take on Richmond on Saturday, April 2 at 11 a.m. The next day Rhode Island battles Saint Joseph's at 10:30 a.m.
