KINGSTON, R.I. – Senior
Sydney Chratian earned her team-leading 11th singles victory of the season and Rhode Island used a key win in doubles to pick up a 4-0 victory over in-state rival Bryant Tuesday afternoon.
With the teams splitting the first two doubles matches of the day,
Klara Nelander and
Tiara Higuchi gutted out the tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles. Going toe-to-toe with Bryant's Ada Boru and Leanne Kendall, Nelander and Higuchi won the match 7-6 (10-8), giving the Rams (8-9) the first team point of the day.
Nadia Rajan won in straight sets at No. 1 singles, and Nelander followed shortly after with a straight-set victory over her own at No. 5 singles, putting Rhode Island one point away from clinching the victory. With her win, Nelander improved to 7-0 when played at either No. 5 or No. 6 singles.
Chratian – who earlier in the day teamed with sister
Erin Chratian for a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles – stepped up for Rhody. She won her match 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6 singles to secure the team win and give Rhode Island its second victory in three days.
The Rams are back in action Saturday, April 9 when they host Atlantic 10 foe George Washington at the URI Tennis Complex. The match begins at 1 p.m.
