How it Happened
In-state rival Brown proved too much for Rhode Island, scoring three first-half goals to claim a 3-1 victory over the host Rams Sunday night.

In the fifth minute, the Rhody defense attempted to clear the ball from its end. Brown's Sheyenne Allen played a ball out of the air just inside the midfield line, lofting a long pass to Brittany Raphino. Raphino was onside and used a touch to get by URI keeper Carly Travers before easily sending the ball to the back of the net for the first goal.

In the 19th minute, Ava Seelenfreund extended the lead when she settled a loose ball in the box and squeezed a low left-footed shot between Travers and a trio of Ram defenders. In the 43rd minute, Hayley Houston sent a long throw in into the box. A Rhody defender attempted to head the ball away, but it went to Laryssa Hamblem, who fired into the upper right corner for a 3-0 lead.

Rhode Island got on the board early in the second half when Erin Hopewell turned a defensive miscue into a goal. Hopewell took the ball off the foot of Brown's Kayla Duran, used one touch to set herself up for a hard shot to the lower right corner for Rhody's lone goal.
