KINGSTON, R.I. — Rhode Island men's track and field hosted its first meet of 2023 Saturday, competing in the URI Invitational at Mackal Field House. The meet was non-scoring.

In the Field

• Johnathan Buchanan won the weight throw with a facility record mark of 21.03 meters. Buchanan shattered the previous record set by Brown's Owen Russell on Jan. 19, 2019 (20.67m).
• Mason Brubaker won the pole vault after clearing 4.65 meters.
• In the long jump, Barry Ndeh was fifth (6.76m) and John Santos was sixth (6.67m).
• Ndeh won the triple jump with a leap of 14.47 meters, and Santos placed third after marking 13.53m.
• Rhody had the top two finishes in the shot put, led by Chris Tavarone's 16.68-meter win. Stephen Cirella placed second after a throw of 16.67 meters.

On the Track

• Tristen Howard won the 60 meter final in 6.84 seconds. The finish is third-best all-time. Jolon O'Connor placed second in 6.93 seconds, and Liam Creeley was fifth (6.95s).
• Kai Schmidt-Bilowith placed second in the 60 meter hurdles final, crossing the finish in 8.24 seconds. Devin Donahue was fifth (8.43s).
