CHARLESTON, S.C. - Rhode Island opened its Spring Break trip with a 4-0 loss at Charleston Southern Monday afternoon.
The host Bucs (7-5) earned their fifth consecutive victory. Playing at the Gary Clark Banks Sr. Tennis Center, Charleston Southern had a clean sweep of the Rams (4-7). The Bucs won both doubles matches and all three of the completed singles matches. They also led in each of the remaining matches when the match was halted due to the team result being determined.
Rhode Island's
Nikki Fernando had the most competitive match. Playing at No. 4 singles, Fernando was down 6-2, 4-3 when her match against Zoe Cauthen was stopped.
Rhode Island will be back in action when it plays at Coastal Carolina Tuesday morning. The match begins at 10 a.m.
