Andrew DiPetrillo had solid opening rounds Friday at the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate presented by Dogwood State Bank.
As a team, the Rams had a little bit of everything. Rhody had the fewest number of pars in the field (50), but it also tied for the second most birdies on the day (18). While Jacksonville State shot minus-6 as a team to build a seven-stroke lead over the field, the teams in second through ninth were all within 11 strokes of each other with two rounds remaining.
Richards continued his stellar play, firing an even-par 72. Steady throughout, he had three birdies, three bogies and 12 pars to place himself eighth out of 78 golfers. Jacksonville State's Santiago Bailleres is the overall leader with a minus-5, but the next 10 golfers are separated by just two strokes.
Narizzano ended the day in a tie for 28th place with a plus-3 75. DiPetrillo was part of a group one stroke behind Narizzano with an opening-round 76. He boosted his score with three birdies in a six-hole span on the front nine.
Head Coach Gregg Burke Said...
"in golf scoring, there are different colors for eagles, birdies, pars, bogeys and double bogeys. Today we used the entire crayon box.
"I was really proud of Geronimo and Andrew today.
Geronimo Narizzano played terrific golf despite some putting woes along the way.
Andrew DiPetrillo is still kicking off the rust of a six-month layoff with his injury, but he never gave up.Â
Brandon Gillis hit it as well as he has all year and just didn't have the putting day he has had in the past.Â
Bryson Richards was terrific. I fully expect him to contend for the individual title.
"We came down here looking for a strong number three and strong number four. Tomorrow could go a long way in saying who those players are." There will be a huge cold front coming through with sustained 20-25 mile-per-hour winds, so it will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The toughest players and team will have the best scores."
