Game Recap: Baseball |

Rams Swept by No. 19 Virginia

How it Happened
Mark Coley led off the game with a solo home run, but No. 19 Virginia scored 12 of the next 13 runs on its way to a 16-6 win over Rhode Island Sunday afternoon.

Casey Saucke and Jake Gelof both drove in four runs while Aidan Teel added four hits and four runs scored to pace the Cavaliers, who improved to 11-0 on the season. Virginia had 16 hits and eight walks, proving to possess a relentless offensive attack.

Rhode Island (3-6) swung the bat well in its own right, pounding out 11 hits and scoring six runs. Unfortunately, the scoring was too little, too late as the Rams were not within six runs of the hosts after the third inning.

 Inside the Box Score
  • The first three hitters in Rhode Island's lineup - Mark Coley, Eric Genther and Addison Kopack - combined for six hits, four runs scored and four RBI.
  • Coley in particular, had a huge afternoon. The redshirt senior had two home runs, one double, three runs scored and two RBI.
  • Genter singled and was hit by a pitch. He also scored and drove in one.
  • Kopack singled twice and drove in a run.
  • Freshman Michael Anderson was 2-for-4, delivering his fourth multi-hit game already. Anderson has hit safely in all nine games, batting a team-high .484.
  • Redshirt senior Billy Butler singled and scored a run.
  • Freshman Jack Hopko singled, scored and drove in one run.
  • Rhode Island has scored six or more runs in six of its nine games.
