WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senior
Nadia Rajan and freshman
Nikki Fernando each came up with a win, but it was not enough as Rhode Island lost at George Washington Saturday afternoon.
With rain in the area, the teams changed up the order of events. George Washington (6-8-1, 3-2 Atlantic 10) was able to clinch the team result by winning four of the six singles matches. Since the outcome was decides, the teams did not play doubles.
Rajan outlasted Alejandra Ramirez 7-5 in the opening set at No. 3 singles, and then she put the match away by taking the second set, 6-3. Fernando used a steady attack to get the win at No. 4 singles, beating Sarah Bodewes in matching 6-4, 6-4 sets.
Rhode Island stays in the nation's capital Sunday for a match against Richmond. Play begins at 9 a.m.
