KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island Women's Rowing enjoyed a successful day at a race hosted by Holy Cross on Saturday afternoon on Lake Quinsigamond. The Rams' Varsity 8+, Second Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ lineups each finished the day with an unblemished record, defeating Bucknell, Sacred Heart and the host Crusaders.
Throughout the day, racing was tightest between the Rams and the Bison, leaving Holy Cross and Sacred Heart to battle for third and fourth place. The top three boats competed twice, while the Third Varsity 8+ and the Second Varsity 4+ raced once.
The Second Varsity 8+ earned Rhody's largest margin of victory, defeating second-place Bucknell by 8.78 seconds in its last race of the day. Rhode Island had also held off the Bison for a win in the morning, finishing in 6:39.24.
The Varsity 8+'s biggest triumph came in its first contest when the Rams crossed the line in 6:32.0, at least seven seconds ahead of the rest of the field. The competition was tighter in the second round, but Rhody (6:54.8) still managed to hold off the Bison (6:56.2).
URI's Varsity 4+ bested Bucknell by similar margins in both of its outings. Rhode Island's morning time of 7:29.09 led the Bison by 5.86 seconds, while its afternoon effort posted a margin of 5.24 seconds.
The Third Varsity 8+ fell in its only race of the day, dropping a head-to-head contest against Bucknell. The Second Varsity 4+ also lost to the Bison, but defeated both the Crusaders and the Pioneers.
