LAKE NONA, Fla. - Rhode Island's season came to an end as it was shut out by No. 2 Fordham in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship Friday.
URI (7-17) got a victory from
Nikki Fernando and
Priyanka Shanker at No. 3 doubles, but Fordham took the matches at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to claim the team point. It was the second doubles victory in as many days for Fernando and Shanker, who finished the season 10-2 as a tandem.
Fernando was leading her match at No. 4 singles against Avery Aude 7-5, 2-5, but the match was halted when Fordham sealed the team win. Fordham got wins at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 singles to secure the victory and advance to the semifinals on Saturday.
