RHODE ISLAND VS. DAVIDSON - SERIES NOTES

  • Tuesday's game will be the fourth this season between the Rams and the Wildcats.
  • Rhody welcomed Davidson to Bill Beck Field earlier this season (April 21-22) for a three-game set, which the 'Cats took two of.
  • After falling 2-7 in the opener, Rhode Island rallied to an 8-6 victory in game two. The Rams hit four home runs in the sixth inning to overtake their visitorsm thanks to the efforts of redshirt junior Addison Kopack, sophomore Anthony DePino, redshirt senior Billy Butler and freshman Connor Grotyohann.
  • While Rhody's offense got going, junior Trystan Levesque held the visiting bats in check. He pitched a quality start through 6.0 innings, fanning eight while giving up just two earned runs.
  • Rhode Island had trouble containing Davidson in the finale, dropping a 9-16 rubber match.
  • The history between the two programs is storied, as Davidson played a crucial role in the Rams' 2016 Atlantic  10 Championship run.
  • Rhody thumped the Wildcats 15-2 in the final game, earning the Rams' first conference crown since 2005.
  • Current assistant coach Kevin Heiss and Director of Operations Tyler Barss both played on the championship squad that advanced to the Columbia Regional and took a game from South Carolina.

THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL

  • For the third-straight season, Rhode Island has earned a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship and will have a chance to punch its ticket to an NCAA Regional.
  • The last time that Rhody took home the conference crown was in 2016.
  • Since then, the Rams have gone 3-8 in the postseason.
  • Should URI beat Davidson, the team will take on the winner of the No. 3 Dayton/No. 6 George Mason game at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
  • If the Rams fall to the Wildcats, they will face off against the second-lowest remaining seed at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

THE BUTLER DID IT

  • Redshirt senior Billy Butler's bat is getting hot at a great time for the Rams.
  • The Rhode Island native finished the regular season hitting at a staggering clip of .417 in conference play with nine doubles, 10 home runs and 27 RBI.
  • Butler recently broke into the double-digits in home runs for the first time in his career, recording his 10th and 11th of the season during the weekend series at Saint Joseph's.
  • His 12 bombs are the sixth-most of any Rhode Island player in single-season history.
  • The team captain is slashing .462 in his last 10 outings and will look to continue to do damage in the postseason.
