KINGSTON, R.I. - Fourteen members of the Rhode Island softball team earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete recognition, the organization announced.
The players honored were gaduate students
Elena Gonzalez and
Susan Harrison; seniors
Jessica Hennelly,
Liz Lynchard,
Caitlin O'Leary,
CeCe Sidley and
Cassie Swenson; junior
Maddie Melice; sophomores
Noelle Sterner,
Cameron Whiteford and
Katie Zaun; and freshmen
Kylie Bulinski,
Ashley Hibbard and
Lauren Wasikowski.
The 14 honorees for the Rams were tied with Dayton for the most among Atlantic 10 schools.
In order to qualify for the individual honor, student-athletes needed at least a 3.5 grade-point average for the entire 2022-23 school year. The Rhode Island players were among 2,515 Division I players across the country to achieve the honor.
As a team, Rhode Island had a 3.46 grade-point average for the 2022-23 school year.
