Rams Dominate Stony Brook in League Opener

How It Happened
No. 22 Rhode Island used a 21-point second quarter to pull away early and win its CAA Football opener, beating Stony Brook 35-14 Friday night. It marked the first time since 1985 that the Rams have won five straight games at Meade Stadium.

Darius Savedge got URI (1-1, 1-0 CAA Football) on the board midway through the first quarter with a 13-yard touchdown pass from Kasim Hill to put the Rams ahead. Stony Brook (0-2, 0-1 CAA Football) responded with a touchdown run by Johnny Martin III late in the quarter.

From there, it was all Rhody. Jaden Griffin's first career touchdown run put Rhode Island ahead for good with 13:12 left in the second quarter. That started a run of 35 unanswered points. Marquis Buchanan had a 70-yard touchdown catch from Hill and Jordan Colbert scored on a 49-yard fumble recovery to help build a 28-7 lead at the break.

Ja'Den McKenzie added an 18-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to remove all doubt, as the Rams cruised to the victory.
