Day Three Results
HAMPDEN, Mass. - Three Rhode Island golfers finished in the top 10 at the UConn Invitational to lift the team to a tournament win.
The Rams led the team standings at GreatHorse with a score of +5. Second-place Connecticut was +15 while St. John's rounded out the top three with a score of +16.
Freshman
Tyler Bruneau, who led for the majority of the three rounds, placed second overall at three-under. He birdied four times and was just one shot shy of Peicheng Chen's (St. John's) lead.
Both classmate
Luke Stennett and junior
Aidan O'Donovan improved their standing significantly to help spark Rhody's placement. Stennett jumped up 10 spots to finish fifth overall, boosted by a team-best five birdies (-1). O'Donovan birdied four times as part of a three-over performance that had him tied for ninth.
Graduate student
Sean Magarian (T-27th) was nine-over, while sophomore
Tony Liu (T-43rd) was +15.
Rhode Island will continue its fall schedule at the Nassau Invitational, hosted by LIU, Oct. 21-22.
Rhode Island head coach Gregg Burke said…
"We played very well today. I felt that members of the team stepped up to make this tournament win happen.
"The freshmen were spectacular and Aidan just hung in there and had a great round for us. He is eliminating mistakes out there and making pars in bunches. We are very, very strong in the first three slots.
"Tyler actually led the tournament until the last hole and it got away from him. He will have many more chances for sure."
