RHODE ISLAND VS. UALBANYÂ - SERIES NOTES
- The Rams and the Great Danes will play one another for the 12th time in the history between the two teams on Saturday afternon.
- Since 2013, Rhode Island has earned a 6-5 advantage over UAlbany. That record includes a split 2-2 mark at Meade Stadium.Â
- A year ago, the Great Danes snapped a three-game losing streak in the series against URI with a 35-10 victory at their home stadium.Â
- Linebacker A.J. Pena recorded his first career interception in that game, which he returned for 28 yards.Â
- For the Great Danes, that win kicked off a seven-game victorious streak that carried them all the way to the NCAA FCS Semifinals. Their season ended with a 59-0 loss to No. 1 South Dakota State (Dec. 15). The Jackrabbits went on to win the national title.
- Pena helped lead the Rams to a 35-21 victory the last time his team hosted UAlbany in 2022.Â
- He was one of five players that recorded a sack, while teammate Westley Neal, Jr. blocked a 24-yard field goal attempt.Â
SENIOR DAY
- Prior to kickoff, head coach Jim Fleming and his staff will honor the team's 21Â seniors.
- On offense, the Rams will recognize running back Malik Grant, running back/team captain Gabe Sloat, wide receiver Shawn Harris, Jr., running back Deon Silas, offensive lineman Adam McKanna, wide receiver Tommy Smith, wide receiver Jig Williams, tight end Jordan Riendeau and tight end Brady Roark.
- Defensively, URI will celebrate defensive back Fredrick Mallay, defensive back Braden Price, linebacker Harold Miles III, defensive lineman Malachi Burby, linebacker Sean Pelkisson, defensive back Emmanuel Gomes, defensive back Quentin Hunter-Colvin, linebacker Cole Brockwell, defensive back Seun Filaoye, defensive lineman Gabe Salomons and defensive lineman/team captain Westley Neal, Jr..
- On special teams, long snapper Donato Crisanti will walk.Â
- The group has helped Rhode Island achieve more than 30 wins (32-25).
WHEN DEFENSE LEADS TO OFFENSE
- Rhode Island is seventh in the country and tied for first in CAA Football with three defensive touchdowns.Â
- Both Hampton and Richmond have also had as many defensive TDs.Â
- Defensive back Freddie Camp began the trend when he recovered a fumble in the end zone during the win at No. 19/24 New Hampshire (Oct. 19).
- A muffed punt by the Wildcats at their own 10-yard line, followed by a key block from defensive back Braden Price, allowed the redshirt freshman to score.
- Two weeks later, defensive back Fredrick Mallay recovered a fumble which he returned seven yards into the end zone.
- His play punctuated the Rams' 37-28 defeat of Monmouth (Nov. 2).
- In the following game, linebacker Devin Hightower scooped up a Delaware fumble that he returned 21 yards for a touchdown (Nov. 9).
- His first career touchdown put URI up 14-7 in the first quarter. Â
