FAIRFAX, Va. – Rhode Island made quick work of Atlantic 10 rival George Mason Friday, knocking off the Patriots 4-0 to push its win streak to nine while completing a 3-0 Spring Break trip.
Sophomore
Nikki Fernando won her 10th singles match in a row, beating Maitree Diksha Rout 6-3, 6-1. Her singles win clinched the team result for the Rams (10-2, 1-0 Atlantic 10). She and
Nadia Rajan also won in doubles, beating Lauren Splett and Brooklyn Siegel 6-3 at No. 2.
Rajan and
Sophie Herrman won in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 1 singles, respectively. Herrman teamed up with
Valentina Cvackova for a victory at No. 1 doubles.
While they didn't get credit for victories since play was halted when Rhody clinched the win, Cvackova,
Klara Nelander and
Steph Hylton all were up by a set when play ended.
"It was good to get our first A-10 win of the year," Rhode Island head coach Jonas Brobeck said. "We stayed composed and got better the longer the match went on. I am happy with how we finished up a great Spring Break trip."
