KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island Women's Track & Field had a strong showing in its first meet of 2025, picking up a slew of first-place finishes at the UMass Flagship Invitational on Sunday afternoon.
The Rams took home three track events while adding as many first-place finishes on the field side. Both
Lily Saul and
Sydney Federico won individual events while contributing to Rhody's winning 4x400 Relay, highlighting the day for URI.
Saul won the 1000m in 2:48.05, holding off Northeastern's Lena Lebrun by less than a second. Federico finished first in the 200m, crossing the line in 24.97.
Megan Wood's toss of 46' 10 3/4" was nearly five full feet ahead of the rest of the field in the shotput, while the freshman tandem of
Macy Daigle (high jump, 5' 5") and
Lily MacDonald (triple jump, 38' 7") added wins as well.Â
Highlights
- Abigail Colella and Nyah Santana also contributed to the relay victory. The Rams' final time of 3:52.54 bested second-place Quinnipiac by nearly a full second.Â
- Wood was also second in the weight throw with a mark of 52' 6 1/2".
- Katelyn Welsh placed third in the pole vault, clearing 11' 5 3/4". Teammates Charlotte Moscovici and Olivia Priest tied for seventh (10' 11 3/4").
- Colella was fourth in the 500m with a final time of 1:18.69.
- Nyah Santana was within a second of Federico's winning time in the 200m, crossing the line fifth in 25.39.
- MacDonald placed sixth in the 60m hurdles (9.16), closely followed by Kayla Clark (eighth, 9.25).
- MacDonald also added a scoring finish in the long jump, where she was sixth with a 17' 5 1/2" leap.
- Madeline Till earned sixth place in the Mile (5:09.48). Elise LePage was just .05 seconds off a top-10 time, coming in 11th (5:16.13).Â
- Erin Hurley joined Saul in the 1000m top 10, finishing eighth in 2:57.30.
- Amyah Santana ran a 1:02 in the 400m, good for ninth.

The team will return home for the URI Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 18. The competition is set for an 11 a.m. start at Mackal Fieldhouse.Â
