Hopkinton, N.H. - For the second time in three years, Rhode Island is the men's cross country New England champion. Led by top-five finishes from Nick Martin and Garrett Hartline, the Rams dominated the field, beating second-place Massachusetts by 46 points Friday afternoon.

The Rams - who also won the New England title in 2023 - had five of the first 22 runners across the finish line of the 8K course at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds.

Martin crossed the line in a time of 24:06.33. Hartline was just 1.29 seconds behind him, with Liam Lyons of Holy Cross squeezing between the URI duo to claim fourth place.

Both Rhode Island and Holy Cross had two runners among the top five finishers. However, Rhody's depth showed up in a big way. Matthew Lucas (13th place, 24:43.19); Maddox Jordan (17th place, 24:52.44) and Brayton Gazerro (22nd place, 25:02.47) all finished among the top 22. No other school had more than three runners in the top 25, allowing Rhody to build a lead.

With 205 runners in the field, all six Rhode Island runners finished in the top third of the field. Anthony Capalbo (33rd, 25:17.29) and Jesse Principe (68th, 25:45.80) rounded out the scorers for the Rams.

Prior to 2023, Rhode Island had not won a New England title since 1952.

The Rams are off until the Atlantic 10 Championship, which will be held in Cedarville, Ohio on Saturday, Nov. 1.
