RHODE ISLAND VS. UALBANY - SERIES NOTES
- Rhode Island and UAlbany meet for the 13th time on Saturday afternoon. It will be the seventh time the teams meet in upstate New York.
- The Rams lead the all-time series against the Great Danes 7-5 and are 4-2 in games played at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.
- Rhode Island has won four of the last five meetings against UAlbany. The lone loss in that stretch was Rhode Island's last trip to Albany. The Great Danes beat the Rams 35-10 in 2023.
- The first meeting between the programs was on Sept. 14, 2013. It was a 19-13 win for the road Rams in the Great Danes' inaugural CAA Football season after joining the league from the NEC.
- Rhode Island won the most recent meeting last season at Meade Stadium 20-17, behind a three-touchdown day from Malik Grant. Grant had a game-high 110 rushing yards on 24 carries with three rushing touchdowns.
- Marquis Buchanan led all Rhode Island receivers with six receptions and 132 yards. UAlbany's Levi Wentz edged out Buchanan for the receiving yards game-high with 138 yards on nine catches.
- Andre DePina-Gray and Braden Price each had interceptions for Rhode Island.
RHODY'S LATE GAME RESILIENCE ON DISPLAY AGAIN AGAINST NEW HAMPSHIRE
- Last week's fourth quarter comeback against New Hampshire was the ninth time since the start of the 2024 season the Rams have trailed or been tied entering the fourth quarter and won.
- Rhode Island is 9-5 such games over the last two seasons. Two of those losses come to FBS Minnesota and Western Michigan. One of said losses comes at Delaware last season. The Blue Hens were in their final year of FCS football and transitioning to FBS.
- The 38-27 win over the Wildcats was already the third win of the 2025 season where Rhody trailed entering the final quarter of regulation and won the game. The Rams were down 20-17 to Campbell in the season opener and won 31-20, and trailed Holy Cross 7-6 entering the final frame and won 9-7.
FLEMING & AMBROSE ARE FAMILIAR FOES
- Rhode Island head coach Jim Fleming and UAlbany interim head coach Jared Ambrose are meeting for the first time as head coaches Saturday afternoon. However, the coaches have a long history of coaching against each other.
- Ambrose has spent the last 18 seasons at multiple coaching stops at current and former CAA schools. He has been offensive coordinator at Towson, Delaware, and UAlbany. Since Fleming became Rhode Island's head coach in 2014, the Rams have squared off against Ambrose-led offenses 10 times.
- The Rams are 4-6 in those games, but are 2-1 against Ambrose at UAlbany.
- Fleming's first career win at URI, a 13-7 win over Towson on Nov. 22, 2014, featured Ambrose as the Tigers' offensive coordinator.
DAVY NAMED CAA FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
- Linebacker Rohan Davy was named CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week after an impressive showing in Rhode Island's win over New Hampshire last week.
- Davy's 45-yard fumble return for a touchdown helped ice the game for the Rams late in the fourth quarter. He also added six tackles and a quarterback sack against the Wildcats.
- Davy leads the Rams with five sacks and 10 tackles for loss. He is second on the team with 58 total tackles.
- Rhode Island has had three different CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week winners this season through seven weeks, the most in the conference.
- William & Mary is the second closest this season with two CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week honors. Tribe linebacker Luke Banbury took the honor in weeks two and six.
- Rams Linebacker Moses Meus took home the honor after the Rams Sept. 13 victory at Holy Cross.
- Rhody Defensive back Justin Carcel received the honor the following week after a two-interception performance against LIU on Sept. 20.
- The Rams also have the preseason CAA Defensive Player of the Year winner on their roster. Linebacker A.J. Pena earned that designation back in August.
BARROW ENJOYS CAREER DAY VS. UNH
- Running back Brendon Barrow rushed for a career high 111 yards on 14 carries with two touchdowns in Saturday's win against New Hampshire.
- Both of Barrow's touchdowns came from over 19 yards out.
- His first TD of the afternoon came with just 25 seconds left in the second quarter. A 28-yard score gave Rhody a 17-14 lead heading into halftime.
- Barrow's second score was a 19-yard run with 13:05 left in the fourth quarter.
- After spending the previous four seasons at Stanford, Barrow transferred to Rhode Island. He was sidelined for the first five games of the 2025 season before making his first appearance as a Ram against Brown on Oct. 3.
